WickRight Roof Vent Installation

WickRight Passive Ventilation Exhausts Excess Heat Under Roofs

Prevents Moisture Accumulation Under Roof Membranes

Problem:
In Chicago, many relatively new masonry buildings have been built with the unprotected trusses and TJIs sitting in masonry "pockets" of unsealed wet concrete block, brick and split face block. Most of the trusses are also surrounded with mortar. In newer buildings, we've also found trusses are encased in spray foam insulation. These trusses absorb water for years with no opportunity to dry. Eventually the trusses begin to rot and become soft, so soft in fact that a pen knife can easily be pushed through it.

If discovered in time, many trusses can be repaired, reinforced and saved. Preventing further moisture intrusion and drying out these damaged trusses is essential to maintaining the structural integrity of buildings and protecting the lives and property of the residents. Some contractors prefer to replace damaged trusses. At WickRight, we attempt to save trusses, but have had to replace trusses in several buildings with severe damage.

WickRight Solution:
In addition to any necessary
truss repair, installing WickRight Low-Slope Roof Vent allows moisture vapor and condensation to exhaust from the masonry wall, the truss pockets and from under the roof membrane to help dry out the trusses and keep other roof system components dry.
