We install WickRight Passive Ventilation® at the perimeter of the roof at the junction of the roof and the parapet wall. This linear ventilation acts as a linear chimney. It exhausts excess heat and condensation generated under roof membranes and moisture vapor that migrates from wet parapet walls toward the roof system.

Venting prevents moisture accumulation under the roof membrane significantly extends the useful life of roofing materials, including the roof membrane, roof insulation and plywood sheathing. Venting also helps control moisture absorption into wood trusses and TJIs, as well as rusting of steel structural components.

We evaluate flat roof membranes on a weekly basis that are in good condition, but have wet and rotting plywood underneath caused by condensation accumulation.

Accumulation is caused by inadequate ventilation of the roof system. To fix this we install a vent on the parapet wall into the perimeter of the roof system that exhausts excess heat and moisture vapor which, in turn eliminates moisture accumulation and mold growth and significantly extends the useful life of roofing materials.

Flat roofs seem simple, but they’re quite complicated. They aren't flat. They have a slight pitch toward a central drain, scupper or gutter that is extremely important. If you have pooling water on your roof, the pitch probably needs to be addressed. Standing water damages roof membranes and reduces its useful life.

In addition, there are many leak points on flat roofs. The termination of a roof membrane onto a parapet wall is a leak point that requires extra attention – our custom counter flashing keeps roof terminations dry for decades.

Scuppers and gutters are common leak points. Rooftop buildings, skylights, hatches and doorways complicate waterproofing. Any transition from a roof membrane to another surface is an opportunity for leaks. AC units, rooftop decks and roof penetrations for stack pipes and other mechanicals are additional opportunities for leaks.

Leaking around and under scuppers is common

We are scupper specialists - in fact, we are the best scupper repair service in the Chicago and the surrounding area.

Our secret sauce includes our custom designed access equipment that allows our expert roofers to fix scuppers from the outside of the building. This gives them the advantage of seeing the opposite side of the scupper and makes it possible to completely waterproof the surrounding area and prevent future leaks.

One of the reasons scuppers are problem areas is that many are under-sized for the area that needs to be drained. We regularly enlarge scuppers to accommodate the flow by removing surrounding bricks and fabricating new, actually attractive scupper boxes.
